Drone flight procedure

The Emergency Management team must approve all requests to fly a drone on university property and a few basic requirements must first be met. 

  1. FAA License and Drone Registration

All flights conducted on any UCF campus must be performed by a pilot in possession of a FAA Part 107 – Small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) license.  In accordance with the rules set forth by FAA Part 107 the UAS must be registered with the FAA.

2.  Insurance:

A Certificate of Insurance (COI) provides needed proof of insurance for off campus, non-University affiliated organizations, and/or unapproved vendors who will stage events, or provide products or services on campus. These groups or businesses wishing to fly a drone on campus must provide a current Certificate of Insurance indicating minimum General Liability coverage in the amount of $5 million per occurrence and $5 million aggregate, listing University of Central Florida Board of Trustees as “Additional Insured” and UCF Risk Management as “Certificate Holder.” They must also submit the Additional Insured Endorsement (AIE) naming University of Central Florida Board of Trustees and the General Liability Unmanned Aircraft Endorsement. [Sample attached, COI (pg.1) AIE (pg.2), and GL Unmanned Aircraft Endorsement (pg. 4-7) with items in RED which are required]

*Note – the insurance requirement does not apply to university employees flying drones for official university purposes as they would be covered under the general liability policy.

3.  Flight Request Form: Once you have an approved pilot and the required insurance, please submit a request with a copy of your FAA license, FAA drone registration, and insurance paperwork, flight dates/times, and flight path here. Please note that all flight requests should be submitted at least 10 days prior to your documented flight.
