A Word On Last Night’s Siren Sounding

Posted April 15, 2015

We heard from many of you last night about a loud noise that could be heard across campus and in surrounding neighborhoods, and we want to update you about what took place.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday, a severe weather siren on the top of Garage H began to sound. There was no emergency, and we believe the malfunction could have been caused by severe thunderstorms earlier in the week. The alarm was shut off around 11:45 p.m.

The company that supplies UCF’s emergency equipment will be on campus today to investigate the siren and fix the problem.

We’re also working to develop a plan to address malfunctions like this in the future.

Our dispatchers took 120 calls within the first five minutes of the alarm sounding. We thank everyone who took campus safety seriously enough to give us a call, and we want you to know that in the event of an actual emergency, we’ll reach out to you through UCF Alert.

We apologize for any disruption last night and thank you for your cooperation.
