Vehicle Break-Ins Reported Near Lake Claire Apartments

Posted March 21, 2017

The UCF Police Department is investigating a series of vehicle break-ins that occurred near the Lake Claire Apartments overnight Monday.

At least 30 vehicles near the apartments and three nearby Greek houses had their windows shattered and items stolen. Items were also taken from three unlocked vehicles.

A good Samaritan around 2:50 a.m. observed a vehicle burglary in progress and alerted police.

The suspects fled from UCF Police in a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Orange County, crashed the car near Rouse Road, and then fled from the scene. Police were not able to locate them.

At Lake Claire police recovered tools believed to be used by the suspects, and the break-ins fit a pattern of similar crimes that have been committed across Central Florida.

UCFPD will have an officer and victim advocate stationed at the Lake Claire Apartments today to take reports and help with other needs. A representative from UCF Housing and Residence Life also will be available.

We encourage students and faculty and staff members to reach out to UCFPD at 407-823-5555 with any tips. This is an active criminal investigation, and any additional information helps police hold the perpetrators accountable.
