UCF Police Maj. David Zambri this spring traded in sunshine, the comforts of home, and his job overseeing the department’s administrative services in exchange for cold weather, a dorm room and intensive professional development.

The tradeoff was worth it.

After 10 weeks in Quantico, Va., Zambri left the FBI National Academy with invaluable training and a new network of partners from around the world that he can call on for information and advice.

UCF Police Department Celebrates Year of Achievement

Members of the UCF Police Department gathered at the FAIRWINDS Alumni Center Wednesday to celebrate a year of hard work, successes and partnerships.

Staff members and community partners were honored for their contributions with awards presented by UCF Police Chief Richard Beary and Deputy Chiefs Carl Metzger and Brett Meade.

Community Relations Ofc. Peter Stephens received the Officer of the Year Award for his dedicated community outreach. In 2014, Ofc. Stephens dedicated hundreds of hours to community projects, including orientation sessions for new students and their parents, self-defense classes for women and property engraving and registration.

A Word On Last Night’s Siren Sounding

We heard from many of you last night about a loud noise that could be heard across campus and in surrounding neighborhoods, and we want to update you about what took place.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday, a severe weather siren on the top of Garage H began to sound. There was no emergency, and we believe the malfunction could have been caused by severe thunderstorms earlier in the week. The alarm was shut off around 11:45 p.m.

UCFPD Increasing DUI Enforcement Friday, March 27

UCF Police will increase DUI enforcement tonight in order to help get drunk drivers off the road.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office blood alcohol testing trailer will be stationed on North Orion Boulevard near Bright House Networks Stadium.

Drivers suspected of being under the influence could be pulled over by police and asked to complete a roadside sobriety test. Those who fail the test will be taken to the trailer for a breath sample and then, if they fail that test, transported to the Orange County Jail.

UCF Police: Click It or Face a $114 Ticket

UCF Police is joining agencies around the state in a Click It or Ticket wave that will go through March 14.

The campaign happens to fall within UCF’s spring break, a busy travel time for students. More activity on roads means greater risk for accidents, and seat belts can help make the roads safer for everyone.

UCF to Host Regional Full-Scale Emergency Exercise March 12

First responders from across Central Florida will gather at UCF Thursday, March 12, for a full-scale emergency preparedness exercise.

The exercise will test agencies’ response capabilities, including timely and accurate communication, command response and information sharing. Ultimately, the goal is to give participants an opportunity to exercise their response and improve protocols for dealing with future emergencies.

UCF Police to Offer Bait Bike Education, Property Registration

Officers and detectives from the University of Central Florida Police Department will educate students about UCF’s bait bike program and help them protect their property.

UCFPD owns the bait bikes, which are left around campus. The bikes are equipped with GPS trackers so that when a thief steals a bike, police are notified and know where to find them.
