UCF’s ‘Light Up the Night’ Speaks Out Against Domestic Violence

The University of Central Florida will honor the lives of domestic violence victims and host a discussion about the impact intimate partner violence has on the community during the 7th annual Light Up the Night event.

Light Up the Night is held each October as an observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event, put on by UCF Victim Services, will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union. It is open to the public.

Toss Old, Unused Medicine at Drug Take-Back Event

Get rid of expired or unused medication the right-- and safe-- way during UCF’s drug take-back event next week.

UCF Police and UCF Health Services will partner to collect expired, unwanted or unused prescription or over-the-counter drugs as part of an anonymous, no-questions-asked national effort to curb drug abuse and safely dispose of unneeded medicine.

UCF’s fifth drug take-back event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, leading up to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Prescription Drug Take Back-Day, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 27.

Learn About Violence Prevention, Community Support and More at UCF Safety Fair

The Pegasus Ballroom will turn into a one-stop shop for all things safety-related on Wednesday, Sept. 3, as part of UCF’s annual Safety Fair.

On- and off-campus services related to violence and crime prevention, fire safety, health and wellness, and community awareness and support will be showcased in the Student Union from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be the fifth year UCF has held the Safety Fair, which is coordinated by Victim Services in honor of National Campus Safety Awareness Month.

’Not Anymore’ to Help Students Prevent, Respond to Sexual Assaults

With crimes such as sexual assault, stalking and domestic violence on the rise nationally, it’s especially important for college students to know how to prevent and respond to those threats.

Education is the best defense in many cases, which is why for the past three years the University of Central Florida has required new students to complete an online sexual assault prevention program.
