County-Wide DUI Detail Starts at UCF Friday

Posted March 10, 2016

The UCF Police Department on Friday will join agencies from across Central Florida on a county-wide DUI detail.

The multi-jurisdictional effort, a collaboration with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and numerous other agencies, will target impaired drivers near UCF and throughout Orange County. It will run from 9 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday.

As part of the detail, drivers suspected of being under the influence could be pulled over by police and asked to complete a roadside sobriety test.

Those found to be driving under the influence will be arrested and transported to jail. Drivers under the influence who are under 21 will be subject to license suspensions even if they are not DUI.

The enforcement wave is tied with spring break, when binge drinking too often has deadly consequences.

UCFPD hopes that education about the enforcement will encourage drivers to find safe ways home if their plans involve alcohol and also remind drivers to call police if they suspect another motorist is under the influence.
