UCFPD K-9 Buster Retires Due to Medical Reasons

The UCF Police Department today said a bittersweet goodbye to Buster, the agency’s newest K-9 who has been forced into retirement due to medical reasons.

Buster, a 21-month-old German shepherd, joined UCFPD in November and became certified with Ofc. Matthew Scott in April following more than 400 hours of training.

Speed Limit Lowered to 20mph on Libra Drive

The speed limit along Libra Drive has dropped to 20mph as construction crews work to widen the road.

The UCF Police Department is asking you to slow down and be mindful of the change. We will be enforcing the speed limit, and speeding fines will be doubled when workers are present.

The construction will expand Libra Drive from two lanes to four from Gemini Boulevard South to the entrance of Central Florida Research Park.  An eastbound right turn lane also will be added at Gemini Boulevard and Libra Drive.

The UCF Police Department is asking drivers to slow down as construction crews work on widening Libra Drive from Gemini Boulevard South to the entrance of Central Florida Research Park.

The project will expand Libra Drive from two lanes to four and will add an eastbound right turn lane at Gemini Boulevard and Libra Drive. Completion is expected by March 2016.

Tip-A-Cop to Raise Money for Special Olympics Florida

Officers from the University of Central Florida Police Department will collect money from Chick-fil-A diners tomorrow in support of Special Olympics Florida.

The Tip-A-Cop event will start at the Chick-fil-A at University Boulevard and Rouse Road at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 29.

Expect Delays, Closures Near CFE Arena for High School Graduations

Intermittent road closures and traffic delays will occur over the next few weeks as part of high school graduation ceremonies being held at the CFE Arena.

Road closures will occur on Gemini Boulevard between North Orion Boulevard and West Plaza Drive. Closures will start approximately two hours prior to each ceremony and end about three hours following the start time.

Parking garages D and H will be reserved for graduation parking. Students, faculty and staff may park in garages A, B, C, I and Libra or in adjacent parking lots designated by parking permits.

UCFPD, OCSO Announce Partnership to Enhance Off-Campus Safety

The University of Central Florida Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Office today announced an initiative to enhance the safety of the area near campus through additional enforcement.

UCFPD officers and OCSO deputies also are continuing collaboration that started in April to target underage drinking and parties in areas near campus.

UCF Police Chief Richard Beary and Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings made the joint announcement to media this afternoon. Summer classes started at UCF Monday.

Buckle Up This Memorial Day Weekend

The UCF Police Department is joining agencies across the country in a Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement wave that will go through May 31.

UCFPD is stepping up enforcement and will issue citations to motorists who are not wearing a seat belt. The campaign is tied with Memorial Day Weekend and the subsequent summer travel season, when more activity on the roads means greater risk.

Seat belts can help prevent serious injuries during accidents and ultimately save lives. The simple step of buckling up makes roads safer for everyone.

Be Safe When Traveling, Moving This Summer

Summer is a busy season for traveling and moving, and the UCF Police Department reminds you of ways to protect yourself and your property during this time.

If you'll be traveling, make your home looked lived in before you leave. Make sure expensive items such as jewelry, laptops and tablets are out of sight and secure. Have a friend or trusted neighbor collect any mail, packages or newspapers, or ask the U.S. Postal Service to hold your mail until you return. Keep your whereabouts off social media.

Traffic Advisory: This Weekend's Commencement Ceremonies

Intermittent road closures and traffic delays will take place near the CFE Arena Thursday through Sunday due to commencement ceremonies for UCF, Valencia College and Seminole State College.
 
Students, faculty and staff members, and campus visitors are encouraged to follow directions provided on message boards to minimize traffic congestion and delays.

UCFPD’s Zambri Graduates From FBI National Academy

UCF Police Maj. David Zambri this spring traded in sunshine, the comforts of home, and his job overseeing the department’s administrative services in exchange for cold weather, a dorm room and intensive professional development.

The tradeoff was worth it.

After 10 weeks in Quantico, Va., Zambri left the FBI National Academy with invaluable training and a new network of partners from around the world that he can call on for information and advice.
