The UCF Police Department is following up on the UCF Alert email we sent yesterday about a death at the Pointe at Central apartment complex.

Upon further investigation, the cause of death was determined to be suicide. We offer our condolences to the family of the deceased, who was not a UCF student.

We encourage anyone experiencing distress to reach out for help—UCF cares about you. Students can contact Counseling and Psychological Services by calling 407-823-2811. Employees can call 877-240-6863 to reach Health Advocate, UCF’s employee assistance provider.

*UCF Alert* UCFPD Investigating Death Reported at Pointe at Central

The UCF Police Department is responding to a call about a death at the Pointe at Central apartment complex near the main campus.

At this time, we have no reason to believe there is a threat to the main campus or surrounding area.

A thorough investigation will be conducted with support from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. While details are currently limited and sensitive, UCFPD will keep you informed of pertinent updates related to this case.

The UCF Police Department reminds you to stay vigilant over the holiday season.

Whether your plans have you at UCF or elsewhere, it's important to be aware of your surroundings at all times.

If you'll be away from UCF during the break, remember to take any valuables with you. Before you leave your home or office, ensure all doors and windows are locked and secure.

Avoid accidental indicators about your whereabouts, such as posting when you will or won't be home on social media or allowing packages to collect in front of your door.

*UCF Alert* Suspicious Incident on Campus

*UCF Alert* A suspicious incident was reported on campus around 1:40 a.m. near Gemini Blvd. North and Alafaya Trail, in the parking lot of the Sigma Chi fraternity house.

A man leaving the house and approaching the parking lot encountered a burglary in progress. The man approached the suspect, a struggle ensued, and the suspect pulled out a pocketknife before fleeing the scene.

The victim sustained minor injuries. At this time, there is no other known impact to campus.

Saturday's Heart Walk: Traffic and Parking Impact

The American Heart Association's Heart Walk will be held at UCF Saturday, Nov. 3. Festivities will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Memory Mall. Participants can park in garages C, D or H.

The following roads will be closed from 7:30 a.m. until approximately 10 a.m.: the two inside lanes of the Gemini Boulevard loop; portions of North Orion Boulevard; the two inside lanes of Greek Park Drive; and all of East and West Plaza Drives.

Those traveling to and from campus on Saturday morning should expect large crowds and delays.

As we prepare to celebrate Halloween tomorrow, the UCF Police Department reminds you to avoid incorporating simulated or actual ammunition or weapons into costumes. Doing so can scare others and put safety at risk.

Acting on a 911 call around noon today, police responded swiftly and detained and questioned a student who had walked into the Classroom I building wearing a chest strap containing dozens of live shotgun shells, as well as a dark jacket.

The student was not carrying a weapon and said he had dressed up as the Terminator in advance of Halloween.

Road Closures Near Main Campus

The UCF community should prepare for partial road closures this weekend on University Boulevard and Rouse Road due to construction.

Repairs to the sewer system located within the intersection of University Boulevard and Rouse Road will take place between the hours of 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, and 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22.

Road closures and other impacts to traffic will include:

-- Eastbound traffic on University Boulevard will not be able to turn left onto Rouse Road.
